A Winston-Salem man has been charged with murder in the death of a woman found at a Greensboro hotel earlier this month, the Greensboro Police Department announced Sunday.

Claude Arthur Chavis Jr., 52, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Demetria Perry. He is being held without bond in the Guilford County jail.

Perry, 53, was found dead when officers responded to the Budget Inn on Farragut Street in the early afternoon on Sept. 19. The department said police were responding to a cardiac call and details on her cause of death have not been released.

Chavis is a Winston-Salem resident, according to a copy of the arrest warrant posted in the eCourts system. At the time of his arrest on the murder charge, Chavis was also wanted on a charge of common law robber
