At least two people are dead, including the gunman, and nine others are being treated at local hospitals following a mass shooting and fire at a Grand Blanc Township church on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 28.
More people are believed to have been trapped inside the burning Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel and may have perished in the flames, said Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye.
“We do believe that we will find some additional victims,” Renye said.
The church, which is on McCandlish Road between Holly and Saginaw roads, was filled with "hundreds" of people attending services about 10:25 a.m., when a gunman rammed a vehicle into the building and began shooting an assault rifle, "firing several rounds at individuals within the church," Renye said.
