GRAND BLANC, MI -- The first man killed in a Sunday morning shooting at a Latter-Day Saints church in Grand Blanc was “very soft spoken and very kind hearted,” a leader in the church.
“The kindest hearted man you could meet,” said Alan Lichtenberg, a former bishop at the church who now lives in Wyoming. “I’m very sad to see him gone.”
MLive is not naming the man because police have not confirmed his identity and it’s not yet clear that all of his family members have been informed of his death.
But he, too, was a former bishop, which in Mormon churches is a position akin to pastor.
“I know him to be a very gentle individual,” Lichtenberg said. “He served for decades with various organizations in the church,” including its young men’s organization. He also “gave decades to scouting.”
