PHILADELPHIA – For the first time in 67 years, the winner of the National League batting title is a member of the Philadelphia Phillies .

Shortstop Trea Turner, who returned to the Phillies lineup on Sept. 28 after a three-week absence due to a hamstring strain, finished the season with the best batting average in the NL.

Turner played five innings in a 2-1 extra-inning win over the Minnesota Twins . He went 0 for 2, lowering his average from .305 to .304.

He is the first Phillie to win the batting title since Richie Ashburn in 1958.
