A pilot has died after a light aircraft crashed and burst into flames west of Mackay, Queensland.

Emergency services were called to a private property in Nebo Creek just after 6pm on Sunday, September 28 following reports a light aircraft crashed.

Fire crews, police and paramedics attended the scene off the Peak Downs Highway after responding to triple-0 calls.

The pilot of the aircraft, a 47-year-old man, died at the scene.

The aircraft involved is understood to have been a gyrocopter, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), meaning the incident does not come under its remit.

Fire crews managed to get the blaze under control by about 7pm.
