Under clear blue September skies, about 25 people somberly waited Sunday afternoon outside a movie theater in Grand Blanc Township, hoping to see their loved ones emerge without physical wounds from the carnage that erupted inside their church during services earlier that day.

Survivors of a Sept. 28 mass shooting and fire that killed at least two people and injured at least eight others inside the Grand Blanc Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel were evacuated to the nearby NCG Trillium Cinema for "reunification and questioning," a police officer told the Detroit Free Press.
