A 37-year-old man died Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree in the Wilmington area of Los Angeles.

The crash occurred about 2:55 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of John S. Gibson Boulevard next to the Harbor (110) Freeway, according to a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene, he said.

Video showed a severely mangled dark-colored pickup truck, its bed apparently severed from the cab.

The investigation into what factors led to the crash continued.
