PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died Sunday afternoon after he was stabbed in Dawson Park in Northeast Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers were called to the park in the Eliot neighborhood around 1:15 p.m. after reports of a stabbing and a possible gunshot being fired, police said.

Before officers arrived, neighbors took the victim to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Police said a suspect was detained after witnesses at the scene provided information about their identity. As of Sunday afternoon, homicide detectives were still investigating and had not made an arrest or released the identities of those involved.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the cause of death and notify next of kin before releasing the victim’s name to the public.
