PORTLAND, Ore. — One person was seriously injured in a fire Sunday afternoon at an assisted living facility in Northeast Portland, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.
Crews responded to a two-alarm fire around 2:28 p.m. at Firwood Gardens, a care home located on Northeast 122nd Avenue and Oregon Street. Firefighters reported heavy smoke in one unit of the two-story facility, which houses nearly 90 residents, many with limited mobility.
Firefighters forced their way inside the apartment where the fire began, put out the flames and found the victim on the bed. The resident was taken to the Legacy Emanuel Burn Center with significant injuries, Portland Fire & Rescue said.
