A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash with an SUV on Sunday evening in suburban Libertyville, police said.

The collision was reported at approximately 5:44 p.m. along North Milwaukee Avenue near Walnut Street. Libertyville police said the motorcycle was traveling north in the curbside lane of Milwaukee when it collided with an SUV exiting McDonald's, 1330 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The people riding in the SUV weren't injured.

Police shut down a portion of Milwaukee Avenue while officers conducted an investigation.

The cause had yet to be determined as of Sunday evening.

The Libertyville Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team were investigating.
