AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo High Sandies’ football team was able to get back on track in week five after taking down Monterey.

The Sandies were able to get District 2-5A started off on the right foot after defeating the Plainsmen, 37-21.

The team is now 4-1 on the year, their lone loss coming against Palo Duro in week four.

Sandies’ head football coach, Chad Dunnam, said he was proud of his team for stepping up and not letting the loss the week prior shake them.

“[We] really won the ball game up front and then our skill kids made plays when they had to make plays,” he said. “I felt like we had guys step up. That was kind of the theme of the week, being that we had a couple of our starters injured. We had some kids step up and play really well...some kids that have been waitin
