Security guards at a Darwin nightclub have been confronted with pepper spray two weekends in a row as the first month of a Northern Territory-wide trial of the weapons comes to an end.

On September 1, the NT government began a 12-month trial of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray , making it legal for Territorians and visitors to purchase the canisters from a select number of firearms retailers and carry them for self-defence.

On Sunday morning, police arrested a 26-year-old woman after she reportedly sprayed another patron with her legally-obtained canister outside Mayberry nightclub in the Darwin CBD.

The previous Sunday at the same venue, police allege a 16-year-old attacked two bouncers with unlawfully obtained pepper spray after being denied entry to the venue.
