Almost two years after the Bremerton Police Department signed a contract outsourcing some outreach efforts to Seattle-based firm Commonstreet Consulting , BPD is looking to expand in other available resources to further aid community members in need.

Their latest endeavor involves implementing a local BlueBridge Alliance program that will allow officers who are interacting with people in distress to help provide relief. After receiving a grant from the nonprofit, Operations and Patrol Captain Aaron Elton said shift supervisors and the department’s navigators will be equipped with a debit card to help purchase items like food or shelter that are needed in emergency situations.
