PORTLAND, Maine — The demonstration, called the Maine Gaza Solidarity Flotilla, is part of a larger international effort to call attention to the humanitarian conditions in Gaza. It was organized in coordination with the Global Sumud Flotilla , a civilian maritime group currently attempting to deliver food, medicine, and aid to Gaza by sea from Greece.

"Now there's a flotilla going from Greece, you know, and this is in sympathy. You are sort of in coordination with that group,” John Wuesthoff, one of the participants, said.

Sunday morning the group paddled and sailed to Fort Gorges where other activists had displayed banners reading, "Stop arming genocide."
