A former Boston police sergeant pleaded not guilty Friday in Suffolk Superior Court to charges alleging he raped a juvenile after arranging to buy sex from the teen, records show.
Paul Downey , 57, of West Roxbury, entered his plea to four counts of aggravated rape, two counts of enticing a child under 16, and two counts of paying for sex with a child under 18, records show.
A request for comment was sent to his lawyer on Friday afternoon.
Downey had previously pleaded not guilty in district court, and his indictment last week moved the case to superior court.
He was placed on paid administrative leave prior to his retirement in July. Court papers said he had “been the academy drill sergeant for many members of the force.”
