MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Missy Hughes, the former head of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation launched her bid for governor Monday morning.
“Listen, I’m not a politician. I’m different than other folks you’ve seen run for Governor,” Hughes said in her campaign launch ad. “That’s the point,”
Hughes, a Democrat, was appointed to the WEDC by Gov. Tony Evers in 2019. Under her leadership, the agency worked with companies “to commit to over $8 billion in planned investments and to create or retain over 45,000 jobs,” according to the governor’s office. She stepped down from the role in September.
Before her time at WEDC, Hughes was the chief mission officer and general counsel at Organic Valley, a billion-dollar, farmer-owned dairy cooperative.
