GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Two Safe Haven baby boxes are being put in two different North Central Florida cities this week.

The first responders of Marion County Fire Rescue, Citra Fire Station #2, are holding a special blessing ceremony in Citra on Monday morning, followed by one in Bronson for Fire Rescue Station #655 on Monday afternoon.

Ocala was the first city in the state to have a baby box in 2020. Then, in 2023, the Ocala Fire Station 1 was the first box to get a real live baby girl, and she ended up being adopted by a firefighter. Since then, we’ve seen baby boxes open in Newberry and Chiefland.

In July, Florida’s Safe Haven Law allowed baby boxes to be installed at fire stations statewide.

Now, all new MCFR stations will come automatically with a baby box.
