The Travancore Devaswom Board has recovered the stolen gold plates (peetham) from the gatekeeper idols of Kerala’s Sabarimala temple from the house of the complainant’s own sister, officials said on Sunday.

A team led by Sunil Kumar V, Superintendent of Police, TDB Vigilance and Security, recovered the peetham on Saturday from the house of sponsor Unnikrishnan Potti’s sister in the Vengaramoodu area of Thiruvananthapuram.

Unnikrishnan Potti, a resident of Bengaluru, had offered in 2019 to gold-plate the idols of the temple gatekeepers.

The gold plate attached beneath these doorkeeper idols had gone missing.
