JONESBORO — In response to an open records request about the city of Jonesboro’s spending for its Juneteenth and July 3 events, Mayor Donya Sartor held a special called meeting Thursday with the Jonesboro Downtown Development Authority.

In an email to the Clayton News from the S.A.F.E. organization (which filed the open records request) there were concerns the mayor spent close to $75,000 on the Juneteenth event.

In a Friday interview, Sartor said the city paid $56,000 for the event with about $40,000 coming from sponsorships.

She said there will be about $6,000 to $7,000 left over from the event in the DDA’s account to help pay for next year’s event.

However, during Thursday’s meeting, DDA Chair Santia Fox said there was difference of about $20,000.
