After a season of setbacks, Thrive Sioux Falls announced Sept. 29 it will be shutting down all operations effective Sept. 30.

In an email Monday morning, Thrive president Michelle Erpenbach addressed a continued lack of funding to support their “action-based” community initiatives like food access, affordable housing and workplace development.

In their 2025 Report to the Community, Erpenbach also announced that a “local funder” was cutting its support by 65%.

“Despite diligent efforts and strong community support, financial pressures have made it increasingly difficult for Thrive to maintain operations at the scale and quality the community expects and deserves,” the statement said Monday.
