LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson posted a new video message on his department's Facebook page Monday morning. "You are protected today," Sanson said, "I promise you we will get through this. We will overcome."

Genesee County is home to Grand Blanc, where a shooting happened at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel. Police say a man, identified as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford of Burton, rammed a pickup truck through the front door, got out of the vehicle and opened fire. Investigators believe he “deliberately” set the building on fire, according to police. Four people were killed and at least eight others were injured, police said. The church burned for hours.
