ROANOKE, Va. ( WDBJ /Gray News) - An airliner went off a runway at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport Wednesday night, according to airport officials.
United Flight 4339 was arriving from Dulles International Airport shortly before 10 p.m.
The plane overshot the landing, and when it touched down, there wasn’t enough runway to stop, according to Virginia State Police.
The jet ended up on the engineered materials arresting system (EMAS), which is a bed of engineered materials designed to minimize damage in the event of a plane going off the runway.
Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport and City of Roanoke Public Safety teams responded to the incident at the end of runway 16-34, according to the airport.
No injuries to the 53 passengers and crew on board were reported.
