A man was hit and killed by a train Monday morning on the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.

The fatal incident took place around 7:05 a.m., when a train struck a 30-year-old man along the B/C line near the West 96th Street and Central Park West station, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, NYPD added.

The train operator saw the man on the tracks near the Upper West Side station, but was not able to stop the train in time, police said.

It is unclear why the man was on the tracks, but there is no criminality expected, NYPD added.
