The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named more than 350 Washington students as semifinalists in its annual scholarship program.

The state’s semifinalists join more than 16,000 students nationwide who had the highest scores on the 2024 PSAT, a standardized test taken by high school juniors that helps qualify them for the award.

About 95% of the semifinalists nationwide are expected to be named finalists in February; of those, 6,930 will go on to receive scholarships that together total $26 million, according to a news release from the nonprofit National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
