NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — As part of the upcoming Route 66 Centennial, a hot air balloon paying homage to the Mother Road will be unveiled at this year's Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. New Mexico Tourism Department Communications Director Cody Johnson said it's an idea that's been in the works since last year.

"[We're] using one of the largest platforms that we have as a state at Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta to share with the world that New Mexico is the best place to experience the Mother Road," said Johnson. "It's really kind of the beginning... of a tour where that balloon is going to share that message with the world."
