SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County Sheriff's deputy has been accused of assaulting a family member during a heated dispute, the department said in a press release.

40-year-old Benjamin Ramos III was charged with assault causing bodily injury - family member.

Authorities say on Saturday, a victim informed San Antonio police that after a verbal argument about Ramos attending an event with his ex-girlfriend, a confrontation turned physical.

According to the press release, the victim told officers Ramos struck her on her neck with a closed fist, knocking her necklace to the ground. He then allegedly hit her on the temple with another closed-first punch, causing swelling and a broken blood vessel in her eye. The victim said she was struck again in the face, which caused more bruising and swelling.
