Massachusetts residents face rising heating costs this winter as Eversource and National Grid propose rate hikes. Gov. Maura Healey is urging scrutiny of the hikes.

Earlier this month, gas utilities in Massachusetts filed their winter rates with the state, indicating that customers of the two largest gas providers should not expect substantial cuts from last winter.

National Grid is proposing a slight reduction in gas delivery rates but an increase in gas prices, resulting in overall bills remaining about the same.

Eversource plans to hike delivery charges, with the company stating that bills could be at least 13% more expensive.
