Throughout the year, bad news has outweighed the good news at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park . Visitors have witnessed several road collapses in recent years. Among the most recent concerns was a landslide issue on Newfound Gap Road. The scenic route was damaged in early August due to heavy rainfall. It resulted in a landslide between mile markers 12 and 13 on the Tennessee side of Newfound Gap Road. The issue left the southbound lane compromised.

Visitors were given alternative routes, but it was clear that park goers were losing trust in the various collapses taking place in many popular areas within the park.

Unfortunately, the heartbreak has continued with another major landslide taking place. The heavy rain caused the damage.
