STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — During a community information session, Staten Island residents will have the opportunity to learn directly from the city Department of Sanitation leadership about New York City’s trash containerization initiative.

“New York City is finally removing the mountains of black bags from our streets,” said Department of Sanitation Commissioner Javier Lojan. “This is a major step toward a cleaner, healthier, and safer city for all.”

Lojan will address the community at the Gerard Carter Center on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event, which is sponsored by Bay Street & Beyond, will focus on the city’s ongoing trash containerization program. Residents will be able to ask questions and hear directly from leadership about how the program will impact their commun
