An equestrian staple, the barn jacket is a garment designed around utility.

A straight, slightly oversized-fitting outerwear style, it typically features large pockets — for holding horse treats, tools and other assorted accoutrements — along with a contrast collar and a sturdy exterior material.

“It draws inspiration from a true English countryside barn coat, which is often used for working in the stables,” explains Miriam Alden, founder of the Vancouver-based brand Brunette the Label , who is herself a dedicated “horse girl.”

The easy-to-layer outerwear style is proving to be one of the must-have pieces for fall 2025.
