MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The community is coming together to support the Madison Police Department officer and K9 injured during a crash over the weekend.
In a Facebook post from Capital K9s, the organization said K9 handler Ryan Kimberley and K9 Freddie were hurt after a tow truck crashed into a squad car head-on just before 2 p.m. Saturday, on the 1200 block of East Broadway. The squad car started on fire after the crash.
Capital K9s said Kimberley was severely injured, has had several surgeries and will have a long recovery ahead.
K9 Freddie had a minor injury, the organization said.
“The price these young heroes pay is enormous and our hearts are heavy,” Capital K9s said. “For now, what we all can do, as a community, is support this young family as they start down the road to recov
