BRIGHTON, Iowa —

An Iowa teenager has been killed in a hunting accident in rural Brighton, KCRG reports .

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 17-year-old Carson Ryan, of Washington, was squirrel hunting on Saturday afternoon when another hunter accidentally shot him.

Ryan, who was struck in the back of the head, was taken to UI Health Care Medical Center where he died.

A GoFundMe to support Ryan's family has already raised more than $37,000. Multiple Iowa schools are encouraging their students and staff to wear orange and black in his memory, an effort highlighted on the Main Street Washington Facebook page.
