PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- A sheriff's deputy report said "3-4 males said they were going to 'beat our asses' and started to ball their fists and get into a fighting stance" during a fracas early Sunday that pitted dozens of people against Peoria police officers.

The deputy with the Peoria County Sheriff's Office was one of many who rushed to Downtown Peoria just before 5 a.m. to help quell a mob of some 50 people who were interfering with attempts to treat a man who had been shot.

The deputy's report, obtained by WMBD through a Freedom of Information request, details a chaotic and hectic scene.

As a result, several people were arrested, two people went to the hospital after being shot and left Peoria wondering how to deal with yet another incident that has roiled the city.
