LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - It’s been just over a year since the old Capital One Tower was brought down in downtown Lake Charles. The question of what to do with the now vacant lot is up for debate.

Sept. 23’s Lake Charles City Council meeting quickly became tense when the discussion turned to line item 14 – where to build an indoor sports complex.

“Year after year, generation after generation, Lake Charles has neglected everything north of 210,” Lake Charles City Council President Craig Marks said.

The city has $30 million in Housing and Urban Development grant funding to build a sports complex, but it must be completed by August 2027.

District A City Councilman Ronnie Harvey Jr. says the funds are available now and ready to start the project on the Fitzenreiter property.
