PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Gov. Dan McKee remains in tough political shape as he forges ahead with his reelection campaign against challenger Helena Foulkes, though his standing showed slight signs of improvement over the summer, according to a newly released poll.

The latest “Ocean State Poll” by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center finds McKee trailing well behind Foulkes in a head-to-head matchup among likely Democratic primary voters, though many still haven't made up their minds. The survey finds Foulkes at 35% and McKee at 19%, but 40% of likely primary voters undecided.

(A recent University of Rhode Island poll tested primary preferences among all registered Democrats and independents, not likely voters, and did not test a two-way race.)
