President Donald Trump has insisted he is confident that a peace deal in Gaza will be agreed as he met the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House.

Trump has announced his plan during the press conference, including designating Gaza as a “deradicalised terror-free zone”, returning all hostages within 72 hours, while Israel will release 250 prisoners plus 1700 Gazans detained since October 7th 2023. Plus what it calls “full aid” to be immediately sent in.

And it says Gaza will be governed under a temporary transitional body – with no role for Hamas.
