Minneapolis' first-ever traffic safety cameras will begin enforcing speed limits this week.

The pilot program, which launches Wednesday, is part of the city's Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries on Minneapolis streets.

“Minneapolis is taking commonsense steps to protect lives on our streets,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in July. "With these traffic safety cameras, we’re making clear that speeding and reckless driving won’t be tolerated – especially near our schools and areas with lots of foot traffic."

Where are the cameras located?

Speed enforcement cameras in Minneapolis will initially launch at the following five locations, where the devices have been installed on traffic lights: • Nicollet Avenue South near 46th Street West • Chicago Ave
