TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida State University researchers say forest fires and hurricanes may be more closely linked than previously thought.

The researchers say it’s all about what’s on the ground. When there hasn’t been a hurricane, the fuel the fire needs is much different than when a big storm just rolled through, knocking everything down.

Yushun Dong, an assistant professor of computer science at FSU, said forest fires can spread much more quickly after a hurricane as the “fuel load” is much different.
