After tributes poured in throughout the weekend for Aiyanna Williams, who was shot and killed in downtown Columbia early Sept. 27, University of Missouri President Mun Choi issued a call to action Monday, Sept. 29, about addressing violence in Columbia.

The shooting occurred in the midst of the Mizzou homecoming weekend.

"There is a crime crisis in Columbia. That is why I have called on the mayor, city manager and prosecuting attorney to take immediate and long-term actions," he said, adding he also has contacted Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe with his concerns.
