EAST ST. LOUIS — Police were investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered inside her East St. Louis home Saturday afternoon.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Shanika S. Barbee, 38. She was pronounced dead at a residence in the 3200 block of State Street. An autopsy is pending, Dye said.

Authorities have not released information about how she died or whether they have identified a motive for her death.

The Illiinois State Police said in a press release that officers responded to the location at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday for a homicide investigation.
