HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — People involved with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other faith based communities in West Michigan have been showing support for those impacted by a deadly shooting and fire at a chapel in Grand Blanc.

Brian Bartels is the stake president of the Holland stake of the church. He's encouraging people to get involved through a simple action: a prayer.

"We come together weekly to strengthen each other. We do it the best we can to keep this a safe location," Bartels said.

While people continue reflecting, part of the church's process involves looking ahead.

"We are going to be more aware. Lock the doors consistently. Have people that are standing in the halls outside, see if there's anyone that we don't recognize but yet we want to be welcoming,"
