EAST LANSING – Jonathan Smith didn’t have a sideline to stalk last weekend so he did a few things around the house while spending time with the family.

The Michigan State coach also made sure the TV was on to watch games across the country during a bye.

That break is over as the Spartans (3-1, 0-1) head back on the road to play at Nebraska (3-1, 0-1) on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, FS1).

Here are three things we learned from Smith’s press conference on Monday:

1. Internal focus first

Michigan State opened Big Ten play with a 45-31 loss at USC on Sept. 20 in a gritty effort but one that exposed flaws. The coaching staff opened the bye week addressing those internally.
