Congressional leaders on Monday left a White House meeting with President Trump without a deal to avoid a government shutdown before government funding lapses in a little more than 24 hours.

Barring a last-,inute breakthrough, a shutdown is increasingly likely. • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) told reporters after the meeting that "significant differences remain" between the two sides. • Vice President J.D. Vance told reporters: "We think the American people are going to suffer because these guys (Democrats) won't do the right thing." • Democrats are demanding that Republicans agree to concessions on health care. The GOP is set on a clean seven-week funding extension.
