BATON ROUGE, La. – October is Fire Prevention Month, and Louisiana leaders are reminding families to make sure their homes are protected as temperatures begin to drop. One statewide initiative, Operation Save-A-Life, continues to play a crucial role in reducing fire-related injuries and deaths.

Fire officials say a working smoke alarm can double a family’s chances of surviving a house fire. But not every home has one, and that’s where Operation Save-A-Life comes in.

Louisiana State Fire Marshal Bryan J. Adams says the need is urgent.
