Data shows that a shooting in Southport, North Carolina, was the 378th mass shooting of 2025.

The Rockefeller Institute of Government defines a mass shooting as "an incident of targeted violence carried out by one or more shooters at one or more public or populated locations" associated with multiple victims.

The North Carolina waterfront shooting took place on Sept. 27. According to law enforcement for the city of Southport, shots were fired from a boat in the Intracoastal Waterway at 9:30 p.m ., resulting in three deaths and multiple injuries at a Southport bar called American Fish Company. A suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
