BRADENTON, Fla. ( WWSB ) - What first looked like a traffic crash has turned into a homicide investigation, the Bradenton Police Department said Monday.

Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a traffic crash near the 2100 block of Eighth Avenue East in Bradenton.

When police arrived on scene, they found a Hispanic woman in her 40s near a car on the ground.

“They found a woman with significant and serious injuries that were obviously not consistent with a traffic crash,” police spokeswoman Meredith Censullo told ABC7. “Her injuries were actually so severe she actually passed away at the scene.”

Esther Salters lives mere feet from the property where the incident occurred. She told ABC7 it was her nephew with her phone that called the police.
