GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —

Greenville County is reshaping the way it processes and delivers child support payments in hopes of improving reliability, convenience, and speed for families.

Starting on Oct. 1, child support payments will be made directly to the South Carolina State Disbursement Unit, or SDU . This aligns the county's system with statewide procedures and is meant to funnel money sooner, according to Clerk of Court spokesperson John Waelde.

Court-ordered "purge payments," which are paid by a parent to avoid penalties like jail time, must be paid locally at the Greenville County Family Court Clerk's Office on Halton Road when specifically ordered by a Family Court judge. Court-ordered fines and fees will continue to be collected in person.
