PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria councilman is weighing in on a shooting incident Sunday morning where multiple people became combative with police.

Two men were injured, one critically, after shots rang out in the area of Main and Monroe, with Peoria Police saying more than 50 people reportedly impeded officers and emergency personnel as they attempted to secure the area.

Second District Councilman Alex Carmona says he was able to review footage of the incident with two of the victim’s family members on Monday.

He says the footage “strongly opposed” any narratives about police conduct, and adds that a “hostile crowd hindered their ability” to save the victim’s life. Carmona adds that both victim’s families thanked Peoria Police for their help.
