California on Monday became the first state in the nation to establish new transparency and safety regulations for artificial intelligence companies.
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 53, which requires the largest AI companies to make public their safety and security protocols, report critical safety incidents, and strengthens whistleblower protections for those who speak out about safety concerns.
