With Mayor Eric Adams dropping out of the race , the stage is set for a three-way contest between Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an indepedent.

NY1 political anchor Errol Louis caught up with the former governor for a wide-ranging interview, which included his reaction to the mayor dropping out, what it means for his own campaign, how President Donald Trump has loomed large over the race and more.

"I look forward to talking to him, but I have not. Obviously, his support would be great. Everyone's support, right? Democrats, Republicans, independents. But more on a personal level, I just hope he's at peace with his decision, and my guess is that he has to sit with it for a while," he said about Adams' decision.
